Requiem Song of Dragons The Complete Trilogy eBook Daniel Arenson Reviews
I really like Daniel Arenson's work. He should keep writing for the rest of his life. I know that he gets some beef from other people about his characters needing to be developed more, and the plots all being the same-despair, dark, and grotesque...it's really only the last book in the series that I found this true. I don't think that it's a matter of him needing to be a better writer because of these things, but rather his writing style is more unconventional than the rest, and causes your mind to stretch in new ways. I loved the characters in the book, he did a really good job at making you want things to work out for the good guys, and not so much for the bad ones. If you want to read something that will stick with you then this is your book.
Daniel's imagination is out of this world. I love anything that has to do with dragons. They are fascinating creatures and I have been enamoured by them since I was a child. As I got older I was compelled to gobble up everything i could about them. I was sunken deep into these stories like I was actually there feeling thier angst, fighting their fight, feeling thier pain. I hated Dies Irae with a passion and i wanted him dead! Dead! dead! Daniel you took too long to get rid of this tyrant. I was almost in tears and gritted my teeth with frustration each time I thought this was it for Dies he came back again and triumphed and i hated him even more. When Benedictus died I put down the book and screamed in anger and frustration!!! (Haha...good thing I live alone). I had to take up the book again and read on. the story is wonderful and I loved it but i also hated it. It was cruel, vicious, hurtful, frustrating, glorious, beautiful, haunting, poignant, crazy, adrenaline-pumping...and brilliant.!! Kudos Daniel. Keep them coming.
Book 1
This book had me hooked right from the prologue. The Vir Requis immediately get you to vouch for their side to win. Dies Irea is the perfect villain; you don't feel any desire for him to win. I get upset that Benedictus just won't kill him but when they talk about Dies' past, you do wonder "would he have behaved/thought differently if he'd been treated with more respect as a child?"
The action is non-stop, nor do you want it to stop. The battles are always intense and keep you spell-bound. This is a VERY difficult book to put down. I can't wait to read the other books in the series and I just want the Vir Requis to to win. I hope there are more Vir Requis still alive and in hiding because they are such a noble race; they can't be allowed to die.
Book 2
I'm so sad it's over ( I want to know what continues to happen in the story but I also want the books to last forever. I want to get lost in the world of Requiem and Osanna. It's that good.
But, since all good things don't last forever, I have finished Tears of Requiem and I loved it. The action was non-stop. The characters continued to be enthralling. The new adventures continued to be surprising with new twists and turns at every corner.
The book is well written and makes sense. I love reading from all the characters perspectives rather then only hearing the story from one of them's perspective.
Well, that's all I'm gonna write for now because I gotta get back to reading Light of Requiem! The adventure continues!!
Book 3
O my gosh that was amazing!! I'm glad to finally know the full story, but I'm so sad!! I don't want to leave the stories of Kyrie and Gloriae and Agnus Dei and Memoria and Terra and all the new additions. I'm so grateful the author actually gave more details after the war so we know what really happened and aren't left in the dark, although he did run through it very quickly. I can't wait to start reading the Dragonlore trilogy, but I'm gonna wait till the third one comes out. I know I'm gonna be dying from anxiousness to know what happens when I finish book 2 so I'm saving myself the trauma lol.
At first when I started reading this trilogy it felt like it was trying to repeat what happened in the previous trilogy. However after about half way through the first book the story started to take on its own identity. After that the story started to get pretty good. The characters are developed quite well and are easy to get attached to. For those who enjoy a good adventure and dragons I would recommend this trilogy.
Violent and graphically violent. Poor character development. The characters are all one dimensional. I kept waiting for things to get better. Not happening. I found I was hating it but because I am committed to finishing all books, I kept plugging on. I finally gave up.
This is the poorest review I have EVER written.
