Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea eBook April Genevieve Tucholke

Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea is the perfect book to read on a stormy summer night! But, just because it takes place in the summer doesn't mean that you can't get chills down your spine! Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea was the perfect title for a dark and creepy story set in the small sleepy seaside town of Echo with Violet's family mansion nicknamed Citizen Kane overlooking the ocean. Violet White and her twin brother Luke are left alone for the summer while their artistic parents are visiting Europe. To make some money, Violet rents out the guesthouse and River West moves in. That's when weird things start happening around town. This book reminded me a little bit of The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer series. I haven't read very many of the the gothic themed books, but I think this one did a very good job. Through all the twists and turns, I found myself racing through the pages. I couldn't put it down! I finished reading it in 24 hours. I loved this book and I can't wait to read the sequel!

Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea eBook April Genevieve Tucholke Reviews

Ok I dont even know where to begin with this review. This is one of the most phenomenal books that I have read this year. Everything about it had me totally consumed until the last page.

The cover is just breathtaking. The font of the title just jumps out at you. The two people standing on the edge of the cliff with the darkness behind them is just....amazing. This is most defintely one of my most favorite covers of this year!!

I read the synposis of this book and was just in awe. April Tucholke weaves a dark, seductive, creepy story in a way that holds the readers attention until the last page. The descriptions writtin in this book of the scenery makes you feel as though you are right there on the side of the cliff experiencing every horrific moment with them.

Even the main characters names Violet and River....Those names were so perfectly placed in this story. There is just something about their names that grab you and bring you into this story. There is so much mystery and intensity in this novel.

"You stop fearing the Devil when you're holding his hand."

Violet meets River, a mysterious young boy who has rented her grandmother's cottage that is beside her mansion on the cliff. Violet is immediately drawn to River and introduces him to her friends. This is where it all begins. There is so much horror and mystery in this novel and I was completeyl consumed with it. Breathtaking is the only word that best fits this novel.

April Genevieve Tucholke is an author that should be on your "to follow list" because she is phenomenal. She is a debut author that breaks into all the parts of the horror genre that you never knew were there....The history and descriptions that she uses in her writing is spot on. There is so much about this book that is incredible from the stories about The Devil that her grandmother told her to the family secrets that have been hidden away for too long.....

I am telling you...I cannot rave enough about this book...I will wait on pins and needles until I can get my hands on the sequel. I absolutely cant wait to see where APril Genevieve Tucholke takes this riveting, horrifying story. Phenomenal...Just phenomenal.....

"The dead are all around us, Freddie used to say. So don't you go being afraid of the dead, Violet, And if you arent afraid of the dead, then you aren't afraid of dying. And if you aren't afraid of dying, then the only damn thing you have to be afraid of is the Devil. And that is the way it should be...."

This was a breathtakingly beautiful Gothic story. The setting of a mansion on a cliff by the sea, is just as ghastly as it is beautiful. April Genevieve Tucholke's debut novel is simply to die for. It's not for everyone, but if you are able to appreciate horrifyingly beautiful places, some mystery, unique characters, and a bit of holding the devil's hand, then you should definitely give this one a shot.

When I say unique characters, I mean completely unique and different. Violet is this loner like homebody who loves to read on her porch, drink ginger lemonade (which sounds fantastic by the way!), listen to old music, watch classic movies, and wears her Grandmother's clothes from the twenties. River West is a quirky, smoldering, mysterious, scary individual himself. Luke is Violet's twin brother and he's a special character as well. Sunshine, well she's Sunshine and she is a whole 'nother story! But April did a great job at creating these creative and colorful individuals! I really got a sense of them and wanted to keep reading because of them!

The story that April wrote is just so mysterious and dark and consuming that you don't want to put this book down! I truly loved every page of this book. I just want more and I can tell you that I will surely be purchasing the second one and reading it soon!

If you want a book that will give you that chilling, fog-like feeling with quite the cast of characters and a beautiful Gothic setting, then you need to pick up this book! Go do it!
Wow. There's something really special about an author who can take beautiful, lyrical, poetic prose and also a compelling, chilling, creepy story and somehow make the two things work beautifully together.

BETWEEN THE DEVIL AND THE DEEP BLUE SEA is the story of a 17-year-old girl who lives with her brother in an old mansion on the sea. Her parents are off in Europe pursuing their art. And to make ends meet, she decides to rent out their guesthouse. But when a handsome 17-year-old boy that she can't seem to stop liking moves in, strange, creepy things start happening around town.

The book is exceptionally well written. The voice is darling and I fell immediately in love with it. And it's just so...atmospheric. Well, well done for those who appreciate language and a good scary story.
